Green House Bistro and Bakery in Valencia County New Mexico

Spanish Flair is the theme for the Green House Bistro and Bakery this month, so how could we NOT go? Now, I realize that not many of you are able to travel to the Green House Bistro but if you are like me you get your food/cooking inspirations from many different places, here are some excellent ideas!

For the lucky ones who do live in the area, you will enjoy this little jewel sitting on Rte. 47 just south of Los Lunas, New Mexico.

Spanish Dishes are the featured in August and September

Dinner begins with a bakery fresh loaf of bread, fresh made pesto sauce, and veg.

Here are our two selected entrees. We were not disappointed.

~ Spanish Meatballs in Spicy Pimiento Tomato Sauce served over Oregano Fettuccini

With recommended wine, Creta Robles Tempranillo

The meatballs were wrapped around a lovely savory olive and the sauce was just the right touch of spice and flavor. The portion was so generous that I could not eat it all!

~ Seasoned Braised Pork Loin served with Peas and Artichokes with lardettes, saffron, sea salt, and Spanish olive oil on a bed of saffron flavored risotto

With recommended wine, Espelt Vailet Rosado

This was what my husband ordered, and we taste-test each others’ food, so I can let you know this was a fork tender yet deliciously crusty pork loin. The veg. was fragrant and the risotto superb.

For our dessert we opted to share a cheese plate of goat cheese, cheddar cheese and blue cheese with apples, pears, seasonal fruit and fresh bread.

Other items on the Spanish themed menu include:

~White Beans with Clams in a creamy vegetable broth and Spinach Catalan-style, warm salad with apples, raisins, pine nuts and fresh organic spinach. (Pine nut link below!)

Other entrees from the menu include seared roasted rib steak, pan seared halibut, beef tenderloin salad, and many other wonderful things.

They are open for lunch and now for dinner on the weekends. Do go to their web site to learn more! http://www.nmagelessliving.com/joomla1/index.php/gh

For good measure, I have included a picture of a to-go pot pie. This was picked up while we were there and it looks delicious!

Ann Sesler, Executive Chef and Culinary Manager made sure we were very happy. I did not think/realize that Spanish food is on the sweet side but their wines generally are not!

We also met the Director, Suzette Lindemuth, who is working very hard to bring a special dining experience to our little community.

Congratulations!

The meals look very appetizing and tasty!

I'm Spanish and I would like to make any suggestions and comments. Excuse me by my poor English, I'll try to explain it better as possible.

- Spanish Meatballs are always a good choice. Tomato Sauce is the most extended. Spices is almost always inside them, Oregano is OK but parsley is the most extended, pepper or any other hot spicy helps the taste.

- Seasoned Braised Pork Loin served with Peas and Artichokes with lardettes, saffron, sea salt, and Spanish olive oil on a bed of saffron flavored risotto is an incredible combination, no more to add.

- I would like to recommend other kind of Spanish wine for this king of dishes. Somontano wines (Enate,Montesierra,Señorío de Lazán,Laus,...) or Rioja more expensive wines. Though Spanish wine is not so famous as French or Italian ones, I think that nowadays is at the same level or even better. Spanish wine Industry has developed the processes a lot in the last years.
